Social phobia?

I went to my first therapy session yesterday to discuss what counselling methods would help most. He suggested anxiety group therapy and anger management classes.

He said that I have some sort of social phobia and would need counselling to get to the root of the problem.

Is social phobia common? :S And how do you treat it?

I’m already on meds for depression and have it under control, but the anxiety/paranoia is a real issue.
I need real opinions, not sarcastic replies, thank you.

Social phobia is quite common. It’s often treated by a combination of medication and CBT (Cognitive Behavioural Therapy) which tries to address patterns of thinking which cause anxiety.

There are support sites for SA on the Internet such as this one in the UK: http://www.social-anxiety.org.uk/ and also this one which I think is mainly US based though has members all over the world – http://www.socialanxietysupport.com/

Good luck with the treatment. I hope things works out well for you.
