With such a large population of peeps n jail, shouldnt they improve the system?

I read the USA houses over 3.6 million inmates in all our jails and prisons. Thats alot of people. I see in Denmark and some other countries a more humanistic approach to prison time. Cant we improve our prisons to make them like residential housing? Providing job retraining or education so people wont be so morose, violent and out of control . And mostly recognize mental illness isnt a crime, get the ill out of prison and hold states accountable for proper facilities and care of people who have addictions, and mental illnessness. Leave the jails for the criminals. This is a national shame!

I think prisons need to be less attractive and stricter. Most inmates actually get to play video games and see current movies and go online. They never did that back then.
