Has anyone with an underactive thyroid NOT put on weight?

I’ve been diagnosed with Hashimoto’s thyroiditus and (as vain as it sounds) I’m really worried about putting on weight. I’ve had some other symptoms for a while -thinning hair, depression (well, I’m more ‘emotional’ than depressed :p),coldness, carpal tunnel syndrome… etc. and I’ve suffered nausea and dizziness for a few years now, but haven’t gained any weight yet… I’m *hoping* this is a good sign?

I’m not on medication yet, they’re waiting for my thyroid to completely break down (it’s stuggling along a bit at the moment), so I’m having blood tests every few weeks…

Could anyone help me a little with what I should expect? Thanks :)

hashimotos is more an inability of the body to use the T3 in the cells than an underactive thyroid although they can occur together it is really an immune system problem, you would need T4 and T3 therapy to control it, if you don’t have peeling skin on the face fingers and toes and soft nails and you don’t have truly black depression it probably isn’t hashimotos . you should be on T4 and T3 therapy straight away not “waiting for your thyroid to break down” the levels can then be monitored
